By expanding its value framework to consider impact to environment and community, Alectra Utilities has gained insight into not only the benefits and risks associated with pursuing a specific investment, but also the lost opportunity cost if an investment isn’t pursued.
For the sixth consecutive year, Alectra has been named among the top companies in Corporate Knights’ annual sustainability ranking. This prestigious recognition, awarded annually, highlights Alectra’s commitment to corporate sustainability and leadership. In 2024, Alectra is ranked first place amongst its peer group of Canadian electricity transmission and distribution utilities, and ranked eighth overall in Canada for businesses with over CAD $1 billion in revenues.
We went with Copperleaf because we needed a tool to help us with the volume and complexity of the different investments we use. Bringing in everything under one platform and having it all available for us to review, prioritize, optimize, and identify where we need to invest is really important.
The use of tools like Copperleaf allow us to identify and prioritize where those investments yield the most amount of value for our shareholders and our residents and businesses that we support in our service area.
Our biggest challenge is determining the best balance between aging equipment and new technologies—
with limited resources. Working within a heavily regulated industry where customers are encouraged to limit their use of our product makes the balancing act that much more interesting.
